Navratri is one of the popular festival which is celebrated all over the India. In india we celebrate many festivals like Holi,Diwali,Pongal,Mahashivratri,Makarsankranti,Teej,and dussehra etc. People celebrate  and enjoy all festival in India.People do fasting and pooja in many festivals. Navratri  is one of the popular festival of India.As the name is NAVRATRI we celebrate it for Nine Days. It is a festival dedicated to maa Durga. People worship maa Durga in nine diffrent forms, each form is representing to strength, protection, power, and positivity.As Nine goddess are worshiped for nine days, the name of these goddess are-

1. Shailputri

2. Brahmacharini

3. Chandraghanta

4. Kushmanda

5. Skandamata

6. Katyayani

7.Kaalratri

8. Mahagouri

9.Siddhidatri


 In india people celebrate navratri with great pomp and enjoy its nine days. people remain engaged in the worship of Matarani  for the entire nine days.Navratri comes  4 times  in a year according to Hindu Calender and tradition. It is in Chaitra, Sharad, Magha, Ashadha. People mostly celebrate these  two  Chaitra Navratri ( March - April) and Sharad Navratri ( September - October). Many people keep fasting for all nine days, but some people keep fasting only first day and last day of Navratri. 

People prepare so many fasting dishes during Navratri days, these dishes are-

People enjoy fasting and prepare many fasting dishes which is healthy,tasty and filling. People are fasting for spiritual purification, and physical detoxification.People show devotion to maa Durga. In this article we will know the diffrent fasting food items which are usually made in fasting also which are energetic and filling. Lets begins -





Do you know what is sabudana, from where it comes and why people eating sabudana in fasting. Sabudana is  like pearls, pure wight in color and small in size. It has made from TAPIOCA STARCH. I tell you what is Tapico Starch . It is  a fine powder from the cassava root. Here you can see the image of cassava root.

At first cassava roots are peeled  to remove its brow skin and make a fine pulp from crushed and grated roots of cassava then this pulp is mixed with clean water and pressed to release a milky liquid full of starch. This milky liquid rest for some time then all the white starch settled at the bottom,extra water will removed, this time a  thick dough is prepared and this dough is rubbed through a sieve so it breaks into tiny and small round balls.These tiny balls are the sabudana pearls.

These sabudana we are using in our fasting days from these sabudana pearls we prepare sabudana khichdi.

How to Prepare Sabudana Khichdi

First Step-

To prepare the sabudana khichdi we need some ingredients  like Sabudana pearls, boil potato, roasted peanuts, curry leaves ,green chilli, cumin seeds,coriander leaves , lemon , ghee or oil, rock salt.

Second Step-


Wash all the sabudana pearls in a bowl and remain half inches water in it let them rest to soak  for atleast 3hours.After that you will notice that the sabudana pearls are fully soft and ready to prepare khichdi.

Third Step-
 
If peanuts are not roasted, take a pan and roasted all peanuts and crush coarsely.


Fourth Step-

Take a fry pan and put some ghee or oil you like, heat the pan and add some cimin seeds and let them splutter,add green chopped chillies,curry leaves and diced boiled potatoes, Saute it, add soaked sabudana , salt and crushed peanuts , mix them gently for 5 minutes.

Last and final step-

Stirring all the sabudana khichdi lightly, turn off the heat or gas,add some lemon juice and fresh coriander leaves at last stage. Now the Sabudana Khichdi is ready serve it, and enjoy during navratri fasting with your family and friends.

2.SABUDANA CHAAT

Sabudana Chaat is tasty and easy dish use to prepare in  India in fasting days. People love to enjoy it because it is very easy and tasty.It is one of the fasting food. Try this Sabudana chaat recipe in this navratri and sure you will never forget to prepare in upcoming  fasting days as it is very tasty,filling and easy to digest recipe.

Top Ingredients

Soaked Sabudana Pearls, Boiled Potato, Tomato, Green Chillies, Fried Peanuts, fried Fox nuts,Curry leaves, Cumin Seeds, cooking oil or Ghee as per taste , rock Salt. Lemon Juice. Black Pepper.Green Coriander leaves.

How to Prepare-

Take a fry pan heat it and add some ghee or oil, add cumin seeds, add green curry leaves and chopped green chillies, Saute it ,add tomatoes,when it become soft add add boiled potatoes and sabudana,Add some Salt and water and let them boil for 2 to 3 minutes.At this stage turn the heat off and add fried peanuts and fried fox nuts on it at last add Some black pepper powder,and green chopped coriander leaves and  Lemon juice.  If yoy love you can add some pomegranates  seeds on it for enhancing the flavour, Now it is ready to serve and enjoy.

















3.Sabudana Vade

Sabudane Vade is one of the favourite dish like by Indian people to prepare and enjoy in fasting days. It is very tasty and filling.It is popular in India. People love to eat as a tea time snacks.It is often served with a green chutney.


How to Prepare-

Sabudana Vade is very easy to prepare,to prepare it you need Sabudana Pearls, boiled potatoes, green chillies, cumin seeds, green coriander leaves, peanuts, and rock salt.
Take a bowl and add soaked sabudana pearls, add boiled potatoes, green chopped chillies,cumin seeds,peanuts, rock salt, mix them all together and make a dough.Now gresh your palm and take small ball of sabudana  mixture dough press the dough with another palm,and make a vada, you can make all the vades from this way,now take a fry pan put oil or ghee turn on heat. Gently put vades on the oil pan and cook them untill it become golden brown in colour. By the same process fry all the vades and now serve it with green chutney.

Green chutney is very easy to prepare, It also enhance the taste of sabudana vade. To prepare green chutney you need green coriander leaves, green chillies, cumin seeds, rock salt, ginger (if you prefer in fasting ) Blend it all together in a mixer jar,Taken out all the chutney from the jar at last if you like add some lemon juice or fresh yogurt in it.Now serve and enjoy sabudane vade with green chutney.

4. Singhada Aata Halwa
 
It is also one of the fasting dish usually prepare in fastting days.It is very tasty and healthy.It is one of the sweet dish.Do you ever think that where you get singhade flour and how we made singhada flour. Singhada is water chestnut, a seasonal aquatic fruit which is grown in river,ponds, and lakes.

Singhada Flour Halwa is very easy dish to prepare, for making it you need Singhada flour, ghee, sugar, cardamom,Chopped nuts as per your choice and taste. Take a pan and turn on heat.add ghee and warm it, now add singhada flour and roast the flour gently until it become slightly golden, when it starts giving a nutty aroma reduce the flame. slowly pour hot water in the pan and stirring quickly to avoid the lumps. When the flour started thicken , add sugar and keep stirring Cook 3 minutes untill the sugar dissolves,At last add cardamom powder and garnish it with a nuts.It is ready to enjoy with family and friends.

5.Jeera Aalu Fry

Jeera aalu fry is one of the famous dish which is made with potatoes,jeera, spices.This jeera aalu fry is usually prepare in fasting days.It is very simple and quick recipe made in fasting days. How to Prepare

6.Kuttu Flour Puri-

Do you know about kuttu? It is one of the ingredients that is used in fasting days as a fasting dish.People prepare many dishes from kuttu flour.It is buckwheat but it is not related to wheat and it is fully gluten free.kuttu is a cereal like quinoa and it is often ground into flour called kuttu aata.

How to Prepare Kuttu Flour Puri- 
 
It is very easy to prepare kuttu flour Puri these are the ingredients -Kuttu flour, Boiled potatoes,rock salt,black pepper, Ghee or Oil.

Process -
 
Take a bowl and add kuttu flour in it and add boiled potatoes, black pepper,rock salt and mix it all together and knead the soft dough.Let them rest for 5 minutes,Now with gently hands roll the puri after grease the rolling board.Heat the pan,add ghee or oil which you like and slide the puri one by one and fry it in a medium flame untill it become golden brown.It is ready to serve,you can enjoy it with aalu sabji or dahi (yogurt)

How to Prepare Sama Rice

Sama rice dish is very easy to prepare,only we need sama rice,rock salt,ghee,cumin seeds and water.

Process of Making Sama Rice 

Take a cup of Sama rice wash it with water,take a deep fry pan or cooker heat it and add ghee and cumin seeds when it starts cracle,add sama rice,stir it  and add two cup water, cover with a lid,slow down the flame and cook it for 5 to 10 minutes untill water is absorbed and rice become soft.You can turn it into khichdi by tempering with ghee,cumin seeds,green chilli,curry leaves and boiled potatoes and fried peanuts.


Sabudana namkeen is a kind of snack made using sabudana, it is mostly prepared in fasting.It is a bigger size sabudana white in colour.It can be prepared either in fried or roasted. It is a very simple and easy to prepare snack.

How to Prepare Sabudana Namkeen 

It is very simple to prepare a sabudana namkeen you just need fried sabudana it is easily available in the market, it is bigger in size and it is used to prepare sabudana namkeen,also you need some peanuts,curry leaves,dry chilli,black pepper powder,rock salt or oil or ghee and potato slices chips.fried all the ingredients one by one in oil or ghee.Mix them all together in a big bowl and now it is ready to eat.You can add some other spices as per your choice if you prepare it for normal snacks.

8.Singhada Namkeen

Singhada namkeen is also one of the fasting dish which is very easy, healthy and tasty.People usually prepare it in fasting like in navratri days,shivratri,ekadasi,purnima and any other fasting occasion.It one of the healthiest option to eat in fasting days.

To prepare a singhada namkeen you need 1 cup singhada flour,i green chilli,1/2 cup peanuts,cumin seeds,rock salt,oil or ghee.
 
Make a stiff dough of singhada flour ,add rock salt ,roll out thin discs or put the dough in namkeen maker and direct pull down on the heated fry pan,fry the namkeen till it become golden brown,turn off the heat and let them cool after it add some fried peanuts, curry leaves,and green deep fried chilli,black pepper powder.Mix them all together now the cruncy flavourfull tasty singhada namkeen is ready to eat.Enjoy it in your fasting days,you can store it in air tight container for 2 weeks.

10. Makhana Namkeen

It is very easy sweet dish to prepare it you need coconut grated or desiccated you like to prefer. Sugar or Jaggery,milk or khowa or condensed milk,Cardamom,saffron ,ghee or dry fruits as per your choice.

Take a pan and heat on a medium flame now add some ghee,then add grated coconut into pan and lightly roast it for 3 minutes.Mix some condensed milk and stir it well.If you dont have condensed milk,you can add some jaggery or some table spoon of milk to bind the sweet material.Add some cardamom powder and few chopped dry fruits.Mix all together in very slow flame.When it mixed well and little soft turn off the flame and let them rest by spreading it on a plate after greshing it with ghee and rest it for 30 minutes, after that,shape that mixture as your choice as a burfy shape,or square shape,or rectangle shape.At last add some saffron for garneshing. 

12. Coconut Laddu

Coconut Laddu is a tasty sweet dish made with grated or desiccated coconut,It is loved by Indian people to prepare in fasting,or festival time,or religious occasion. For making it we need fresh grated coconut,sugar or jaggery,chopped dry fruits,cardamom.

Heat the pan and roast the fresh grated coconut in slow flame one 1 minute then add jaggery in powder form or grated form,add chopped dry fruits,stir it well add cardamom powder, and make a small shape ball by gentle hands and coated it with dry coconut powder,You can also made it from sugar powder in place of jaggery. After coating with dry coconut powder now it is ready to eat or enjoy, for better taste rest them in refrigerator for 1 hour. 13. Peanut Sweets

Peanut sweet is one of the famous indian sweet dish,it is usually prepare in fastival, or any other ocassion, people usually prepare peanuts dish like peanut chutney,peanuts namkeen,roasted peanuts,fried peanuts,peanuts chikki, peanuts laddu, peanuts burfi,peanuts jams etc. Peanuts laddu are very tasty and yummy dish  loved by people.  How to Prepare

 Its preparation is very easy and simple,It is easy to cook. soak  sabudana after washing it with clear water for two hours. After that take a deep fry pan and add ghee in it then add sabudana and stir it.Now add one littre milk in it,and fried chopped dry fruits,Continuous stir it well. When the sabudana turns translusent and soft,turn off the flame and add some cardamom  powder mix it  properly. Now the Sabudana Kheer is ready to serve.
